unfortunately Nikon in their infinite wisdom have chosen to "encript"
their many of thier camera models raw files (personally don't think
raw should be capitalized as it is not an acronym just raw as in
"uncooked/unprocessed") and only developers who licence their
decryption software can use it (oh and those freeware/shareware
programers that reverse engineer it)

I have a Nikon Coolpix 5700 camera and iPhoto 6 under 10.4.6. I
take photos in RAW format which I peel off the Compact Flash card

camera as compatible, likewise my Flash Card Reader. The raw files
are in Nikon .NEF format and open correctly in Photoshop.
However in Image Capture or iPhoto 6 they will not read. In both
cases they are "seen" correctly but on importing come up with an
error message that they could not be imported. This happens either
plugged into the camera directly, the Flash Card in the reader of
for downloaded files on my hard disk.
Has anyone any help to offer on this one please. It would be so
nice to file the raw photos straight into iPhoto.

Hi Severin,
I don't think the Nikon 5700 & D200 are compatible with iPhoto6 for
the RAW format.
From Nikon Support:
"RAW NEF images from Nikon cameras are proprietary formatted raw
data directly from the cameras's sensor. If the images are
improperly transferred to the computer they will not be able to be
opened and will give an "Unsupported File Format" warning.
Only Nikon View, or manually dragging images from the mounted card,
should be used to transfer NEF's."
Cheers,
