Hi WAMUGers,
Quite a few people on our Mailing List have been asking me 'How to
Password Protect a Folder' in OSX.
I personally find the Encrypted Disk Image method the most effective
means to secure with "Top Secret" confidence the contents of a
folder, and Keychain for my passwords, credit cards, banks etc.
Changing permissions on a folder and all it's contents to 'No Access'
to others DOES NOT encrypt the contents of the folder.
After doing some searching I have found some applications that
'might' do what some people want.
I have never used any of these so cannot recommend them.
1. 'SECRET FOLDER FOR MAC''
Conceal files and folders, a fast way to protect personal documents.

2.HIDE FOLDERS:
About Hide Folders
If you are interested in protecting your documents and folders, Hide
Folders is just what you are searching for. With a click you will
conceal files and folders with all their contents. The program is
simple and natural to use because it works just as you are used to do
things everyday with your Mac. With this program you will protect
your files avoiding them to be being modified, seen or erased by
other users.

3. HIDE-OUT:
Hide-Out! is a very simple Freeware application which allows you to
take advantage of Mac OS X's ability to hide a folder by putting a
full point in front of its name.
Hide-Out! will allow you to do this easily without having to use the
terminal application and it now sets the invisible bit on the folder
too, keeping it hidden.
So if you have some stuff that you'd like to keep away from prying
eyes, you can now keep it in your Hide-Out!

4.TRESOR:
Tresor is a file and folder encryption application for Macintosh. It
combines high cryptographic security and ease of use. Integrated
compression functions allow compression and encryption in a single
pass, without any interim files. Filter functions allow you to
automate complex encryption tasks without the use of risky scripts.
Being developed outside the US, Tresor is available in all countries
that allow cryptography.
Tresor encrypts the complete content of any file using IDEA™ block
encryption. It takes a passphrase of arbitrary length and produces a
160-bit hash value using the Secure Hash Algorithm (SHA). It then
takes 128 bits of this hash value, using them as the encryption key
for IDEA™. For decryption the same passphrase will be needed again.
