Hi Natas
If you read the bottom of the email there is a statement "Thank you for
making apple the #1 in education notebook sales".
From this statement you have to agree there must be some dollars to be
made through the educational area. As a lecturer to medical students
who are constantly asking me about my G4 powerbook and "what is it like
to use an apple" I know there is lots of interest in the product from
the PC crowd. I show them the ease of use and the great graphic
rendering that is possible. The next question is about price and so we
talk about Apples education pricing and next question "where to go and
talk someone about a Macs".
Now if you are a supplier and you limit access of a product to your own
store (Apple online) then you are penalising the competition (Local
Apple care centres). This is very similar to what Telstra is being
pursued for by the ACC with respect to telephone line rental and
wholesaling of phone lines. The result being that the local Apple
centre has to refer the customer to the online store for the purchase
of the product at the educational price. A price that they cannot
match. I'd be pretty sure that the local Apple centre would not be
getting a kickback for the referral (Maybe one of the local Apple
centre guys could comment on this)
In the end it comes down to taking money away from our local Apple
support centres and putting it in Steve Jobs back pocket. All I see
this doing is screwing down/ screwing up the survival of the local
Apple centres, which we all rely on; Just getting a little bit
Microsoftish IMHO.

Rosie,
I will ask my colleague (Higher Education Manager Apple WA) to drop
you a line.
The bottom line - Apple has NOT dropped education pricing for
education staff via resellers. Students, however, will no longer be
able to buy via resellers at education pricing. Students and staff
will continue to be able to buy at education pricing via AppleStore
(which has free delivery by the way). We have also greatly cut back
the number of resellers that can sell as education agents to give us
better focus.
Cheers,
Stephen

Hi Wamuggers!
I will be due to upgrade to a new Mac at the beginning of next year.
While I was in at Digilife last week, I mentioned that as I had
bought my last computer from them, I would probably purchase my
next one there as long as the educational price still applied. (I
am a TAFE lecturer, and have bought all of my previous computers on
educational discount).
Digilife told me that Apple have ceased to offer educational prices
after April 30 2006. Needless to say, I was devastated, having been
a Mac owner for more than 12 years - dating back to my first - a
luxurious LC III.
Later in the week, whilst browsing at Macs-4-u in Midland, Charles
informed me that Apple had not discontinued the educational price,
it is still available if hardware/software is bought online.
I am searching for assistance with the following. Here comes my
question(s).
a) Is there anywhere in Australia where I could buy my next
computer (I'm thinking a iMac Dual Chip) where the educational
discount will still apply ?
b) Is it worth buying a computer online to get the educational
discount, given the associated costs, such as postage, handling,
delivery, etc.?
c) Has anyone on the list encountered this dilemma?
Thanking you for your support.
Regards
Rosie :-)

Thank you for making Apple #1 in education notebook sales!
According to the IDC Australia and New Zealand PC Tracker, Q4 2005,
Apple was the number
1 supplier of notebook computers to the education market in
Australia in the fourth quarter of
2005 (the most recent report).
