Hi Kevin

Something else you could try (maybe as a last ditch effort) is to boot the
"troublesome" G4 into Firewire Target Mode (restart, hold down the T key
with a Firewire cable plugged in). Once you see the little Firewire symbol
bouncing around the screen, plug the other end of the Firewire cable into
one of the other working G4 towers. (with the second G4 running).


of course doesn't work with early G4 "tangent" & "clockwork" which, like G3 towers, wont boot to Firewire mode.


also make sure that it hasn't had it's optical (CD/DVD) drive replaced with a non standard (for apple) unit. I had a G3 tower that would go through the motions of installing OS X then fail with a crash, swapped the LG cd drive out with a DVD drive from its sister machine and it installed fine... then put the LG drive back in
