Hi all, Its been quite a while since the last newsletter, and there is quite a lot to write about, but I will try and keep this short. Firstly, congratulations to Michael from Mount Pleasant, who was our latest newsletter subscriber winner.
Now you can have your cake and eat it too! The new Intel models have brought along with them some newer software for running Windows (I know, a dollar in the swear jar). You can read about and download the Apple attempt here: <http://www.apple.com/macosx/bootcamp/>. For my money though, parallels is the better option as it allows you to run both OS's at the same time. See <http://www.parallels.com/> for further details - and, see our special below. For a detailed comparison, see this article: <http://www.macuser.com/xp-on-mac/parallels_workstation_vs_boot.php> There has also been good news on the hard drive front as well, with perpendicular technology boosting capacities of hard drives which Seagate has already brought to market. Other technology just around the corner, will allow current hard drives to experience a ten fold increase in capacity - more on this in another newsletter. Seagate by the way, is in the process of taking over Maxtor. In an industry first, Samsung has produced a hybrid hard disk drive that combines the traditional hard disk with flash memory. The hybrid drive is meant to not only improve system performance, but also extend battery life and will especially be useful in laptops. Performance stats indicate battery life is extended by between 8 per cent and 10 per cent, and boot up with a hybrid drive should start between 8 seconds and 25 seconds faster. Microsoft is building support for hybrid drives into Windows Vista under the name ReadyDrive. It's one of a number of technologies the company is building into the new operating system to help improve system performance. These include ReadyBoost, which allows a removable flash memory device to act as system memory, thus providing an instant memory boost without having to install new RAM boards, and SuperFetch, which preloads frequently used applications into memory to improve system responsiveness. And now to the specials: Latest 1GB memory for the Intel Macs now reduced to $169 inc. gst. (Even less for bulk deals - dealers welcome).
