... Uh, variables [grin]. Camera quality, Computer horsepower, software
codec, network quality. They all appear to contribute.

Ive had limited success In my attempts to get something working with my
brother in the UK. I have an iSight/ADSL/Dual 1.8 G5 config. He has setup
that includes AIM/$10 generic webcam/3 year old Wintel laptop.

When I do get a connection it's a slightly pixelly image of him with perfect
sound i.e. No delay between video and audio. Most of the time I don't get a
connection however, instead getting the generic -8 error message. He gets a
pixelly image of me with a 1-2 second delay in the audio.

Up until this point we've assumed the issue has been at his end, either with
his ageing hardware or his less than stellar broadband connection.

(I tried Skype video btw (1.5.0.52) with a local person who didn't have a
webcam (i.e. Just to see if he could see me) - didn't work).

Recent attempts to connect with other Mac users here in WA have resulted in
the same -8 error message though, so I started looking into 'closed ports'
as the cause.

Matt, I'd love to chat and see if my NAT/firewall is correctly configured,
just so I can rule out my end and focus on solving the problem.

Cheers,
Tobes.
