Continuing saga

I now have XP running-only one ! and Keyspan USB to  DB9 male socket  
with all connected up but do not know how to set ports :-( Do I need  
software or just settings. I have tried guessing the Com 1 and com 2  
ports with no luck. do I need to set something on the Mac side?
