RJ 12 Telephone plug.

Hi everyone, can someone tell me if the wiring of an RJ12 in  
Australia is the same as an RJ12 in UK? My daughter has a phone which  
worked in Uk but although it works here it does not RING here.
Has anyone any suggestions?  Thanks for any suggestions.
