How do I stop mail launching every time I start up my computer

Dear WAMUGGERS

I feel exceedingly stupid about this.  I have been through both Mail  
and System Preferences several times looking for where or how I stop  
this from happening.

I will be very grateful to whoever can tell me how to stop it happening.
