Events are moving towards a wireless link from the house to the
studio, a distance of probably 35m (to be actually measured but this
is not a bad estimate). It is second storey to second storey with
window to window view and not much brickwork in the way.
I currently have a D-Link DSL-504 4 port modem router with a G5 and
a G3 iMac plugged and the wireless connection will be for a MacBook
used in the studio or downstairs in the house. Ultimate speed is not
an issue, no streaming of movies or the like, just email, web, file
sharing and occasional printing. I am wondering whether the 802.11n
technology is necessary or whether 802.11g will suffice.
An Airport Extreme Base station plugged in to the router is an
expensive route. The D-Link DSL-G604T wireless modem router does
it all for under $100, but will it have the range?
