Thanks Bob, I had run Disk Warrior from my back-up external disk but it could not repair it. On your advice I ran Disk Utility from it and it repaired it! I underestimated the Disk Utility thinking Disk Warrior would be better.
Having repaired it I again ran Disk Warrior and this time it also worked. My panic is now over. I thought it might have been physical HD problem. Thanks again.
