Hi Severin,
1.Start by creating a new account with the desired short user name.
2. Copy the contents of your existing account into the /Users/Shared
folder.
3. Log out, then log into the new account and replace the contents of
the new account’s home
folder with the folders you placed in the Shared folder.
4. Log out and log in again so Mac OS X reads the new user preference
files that you
just copied from /Users/Shared.
5. Then go to System Preferences and Delete the old User Account
