I have a 17" G4 PowerBook running 10.4.9. For email I use Entourage 11.3.3.
Occasionally, Entourage's sound effects, such as No Mail, Sent Mail, and New Mail sounds, stop working. Everything works fine, just no Entourage sound effects. Later, after the sounds have stopped working for a while, if I plug in my Logitech USB Headset (which I really only do if I use Skype for voice calls), it seems that a large store of accumulated Entourage sounds start playing. It goes for ages and ages, presumably playing through all of the Entourage sounds that haven't been able to play previously. Eventually, the sounds stop, presumably when the queue of accumulated Entourage sounds runs out. Whilst the sounds are playing, if I unplug the Headset the accumulated sounds continue playing through the PowerBook speakers. So it seems that something happens causing a queuing up of the Entourage sounds, and then the plugging in of the Headset un-clots the build up. Any clues?
