I checked the startup current of the Seagate 500 Gb drive is 2.8
Amps, which I gather is fairly high. Fortunately the drive in the
iMac is also a Seagate and the specs quote the same 2.8A startup
current, so hopefully that won't be a problem.

The one thing always that you need to be conscious of is the
Startup current of the drive you intend to use . Will the power
supply of the Mac you will instal it into supply that ?
With a Tower you can expect the Power supply to handle more than
one HD ,
and hence just one enlarged HD would not be expected to be a problem
but an iMac ? ???
