DVD regions

I recently bought DVDs to send as presents to UK and I now find that  
they can't be played outside Australia. I gather this is old news,  
but  is there any software that would let my copy  DVDs and change  
the region code?.
I looked for something called "Shrink" but this seems to be only for  
microsoft systems.
I'm not normally into copying things, but this is different - I'd  
have been happy to pay for things my friends can use.
