Hi everyone. My G5/10.4.10/2GbRAM/1.8GHz will not go past the grey apple screen on startup. If left the fan starts up and reaches its usual slow rise in

HI Jon ,

The G5 Macs sometimes have liquid cooling in them which leaks and destroys the mother board ... OUCH !

As far as I know the 1.6Ghz and most of the 1.8GHz are OK , but if you have a Dual 1.8GHz you could be in trouble .
There is a lot of info here about the coolant leak problem :

Just in case it's a software problem you could try to start up from your Tiger Installer disk .

And of course if you drop the side of the case and look at the CPU you might see something. There is a lever at the back you need to lift up for the case side to open down.

Good Luck

Bob

I have an older version of Disk Warrior that I think works with the G5, but there again, the CD drawer will no open either. Tried PRam startups to no avail. Any ideas what this may mean? is it logic/mother board or a similar sinister event? the machine is about 3.5 years old.

Kind regards
Jon
