Hi everyone. My G5/10.4.10/2GbRAM/1.8GHz will not go past the grey apple screen on startup. If left the fan starts up and reaches its usual slow rise in
decibels, then reaches its peak.

I have an older version of Disk Warrior that I think works with the G5, but there again, the CD drawer will no open either. Tried PRam startups to no avail. Any ideas what this may mean? is it logic/mother board or a similar sinister event? the machine is about 3.5 years old.

Kind regards
Jon

Have you tried starting up in Verbose mode (restart while holding Comand-V)? This will show you the startup process using a Unix text screen. Not only can this show you where the startup process is stalling, it can sometimes actually cure the problem.

The other trick is to start up in Single User mode (instead of Cmd-V, use Cmd-S). The main opportunity this gives you is to run an fsck session, which will correct any disk or directory problems (more effective than DiskWarrior in my experience).
