John,
if you have dragged the icon onto the desktop then do the following:
Click once on the icon so that it is highlighted. Do one of the
following:
1. hold the apple button and then press the letter i
2. hold the control button whilst selecting the icon scroll to get
info
3. choose get info from the file menu when in the finder
Now that the get info dialogue box is highlighted go down to Open with:
From the list select PowerPoint.
