OK ! I think I may have your answer !
I am sending you direct a copy of Boot issues for Intel Macs
that I found on Macintouch .
You will need to reformat that external hard drive to a different type
of format
called GUID partition in order for it to function as a Boot drive .
The info is a bit over half way down on the first page of the file I
am sending
