My long running issue with printing from a new Epson R2880 is sort of resolved. G5 1.8 OSX10.5.4 Following advice I first reinstalled the 10.5.4 combo update in safe boot mode. I can now make it work by booting in safe mode, uninstalling the driver then reinstalling. CUPS can be accessed. Any return to normal boot corrupts something and I have to go through the whole sequence again. The printer either pauses or comes up with "Sending Data" forever depending on actions history. Returning to safe boot from this state leaves the driver corrupted. Currently I have nothing at all in my login items, all cleared out. Two other printers, one into USB and the other into Airport Extreme are unaffected by all this. I notice no other weird happenings suggesting a wider issue and Epson confirm that they are aware of no issue with 10.5.4. The CD installed the software straight on to my MacBook (Tiger) which prints without a hitch. The driver on the CD is the same as the one posted on the internet. What do I do next. Do I need something like a clean install and rebuild? Horror!
