Thanks for scaring the pants off me Travis. Purchased same at same time.

Can you please describe where you found the bulge? Can't find a problem with mine.

Then I read the rest of your email! I deny taking the battery out for inspection. Can they prove I did? Where is the sign that says "Warranty void if removed"? Is the bulge visible when battery installed.

Thought I would share this as it might help someone else:

I have a MacBook Pro (17") which will turn 2 years old in April. About
a month ago it started to randomly shutdown - and I mean like instant
shutdown, no warning! After some googling, I discovered it's a common
problem with this model's battery, and that it's also prone to
"battery bulging". So I took the battery out for inspection and sure
enough it had begun bulge. Further research (as mentioned previously
on WAMUG) led me to Apple's article extending the warranty from 1 to 2
years for MBP battery bought up to April 2007 (mine just scrapes in).

So I took the battery to an Apple service centre on Scarb Beach Rd,
and Apple came back and said that if the battery if removed then the
customer has to purchase a new battery!

WHAT THE? It's a laptop, you're aloud to remove them.

So I phoned Apple and finally got through to Customer Relations to ask
"what the?". They said Apple has changed their policy but in "good
will" we'll send you a new battery for free.

I now have it safely in my Laptop. So if your new battery request gets
knocked back, don't give up.

cheers
Travis
