As a new iMac user - many thanks for all the tips and information. I
am really enjoying the "Switch" after 15 years of PC and am
continually amazed at the potential of the Mac!
I have just placed an order for the book recommended by Ronni for
iPhoto below and I have ordered lots of others so I know where I will
be spending the holidays!!!
There are great bargains to be had ordering from the US with the
strong Aussie dollar. I got "Switching to the Mac - The Missing
Manual" for AUD$29.50 including postage which retails here for AUD$85!
I've checked out a number, including postage charges and one that was

many memories. I don't have much time to say goodbye to everyone, but

Although, I have to say, it sure has taken you a while! I don't mean
to sound ungrateful, but how would you like to spend five months
sandwiched between Jane Eyre (drama queen) and Fundamentals of
Thermodynamics (pyromaniac)? At least Jane was an upgrade from that
stupid book on brewing beer. How many times did the ol' brewmaster
have one too many and topple off our shelf at 2am?
I know the trip to meet you will be long and fraught with peril, but
after the close calls I've had, I'm ready for anything (besides, some
of my best friends are suspense novels). Just five months ago, I
thought I was a goner. My owner was moving and couldn't take me with
her. I was sure I was landfill bait until I ended up in a Better World
Books book drive bin. Thanks to your socially conscious book shopping,
I've found a new home. Even better, your book buying dollars are
helping kids read from Brazil to Botswana.
But hey, enough about me, I've been asked to brief you on a few things:

In the Events Preference Pane in iPhoto > Preferences - Events -
"Autosplit into Events"
'One event per day', 'One event per week' , Two-hour' or 'Eight-
hour' gaps.
iPhoto 09 (like its predecessor) automatically splits imported
photos into Events based on the capture date of the photos.
Usually this is very handy, but sometimes events can be split when
it would be better to have them together.
You can "combine" events by selecting them, then click the Merge
button on the bottom toolbar.
Or you can drag one Event onto another to merge the two Events.
The result is a single Event.
You can rename the Events, by clicking on the title field under the
thumbnail.
You can move photos between events, drag photos from one event to
another in Photos view.
You can Split Events, either by:
1. When you’re importing new photos, check Autosplit Events after
Importing.
2. In Events view, select one or more events and choose Autosplit
Selected Events from the Events menu.
or
3. When viewing an event’s photos, select one or more photos and
click the Split button.
