My 2c, I can attest to the replacement of powerboards by Belkin, very obliging, after the switch on the board collapsed/ failed. I had bought a replacement then read the new box - doh - but you can always find something that may need protection.
When considering surge protectors - slightly off topic: please consider other household items After a power surge last year in the Hills, and losing a very expensive coffee machine and phone answering machine, you might consider you dishwasher, dryer and washing machines, that may always be plugged in, too. the $10 surge protector didn't save the coffee machine. Western Power thought repair cost only ($1800 out of $2400) and not replacement was 'fair' - then 3 month wait for spare parts at least... Belkin laptop protectors ($200 @ Harvey Norms - can be on special for $100 - $150 - if you look about) all about now.
