Just a thought, can you start your computer using its Installation Disc (DVD) and Repair Disk and Repair Permissions? It is possible there is a problem with the filesystem after a loss of power. This can also cause a loss of disk space, which in turn leads to performance problems. It also isn't clear from your e-mail whether you have external peripherals attached to your computer nor whether you are using wired or wireless keyboard/mice. Also, do you have a home network and has anything changed since the storm?
