All, This is more a story than a question.
I've recently upgraded to the Adobe suite of several useful products such as Dreamweaver, InDesign, Photoshop and Acrobat Pro. I dug out an old Multi Function printer/scanner - Lexmark X3330 - and plugged it into the USB port so I could scan a document. I'd not used this printer on this computer before - my Mac Mini using 10.6.4 First I tried Preview. Under File Menu I find 'Import from Scanner' then selected Lexmark X3330 that was displayed as the scanner of choice. It immediately did exactly what I needed and scanned the document. Very nice I thought. Remember I'd not installed anything for this printer, Mac OS had found the right driver and made all the right connections for this to just work. Then I tried Adobe Acrobat Pro, looking forward to what the best of Adobe could do for me. Hmmm, I can't get very far. It had one Scanning device preinstalled, a Canon MP470, which won't connect to my scanner. I downloaded the latest drivers to suit my OS and the Lexmark printer/scanner, and installed them. Still no luck with Acrobat picking up the newly installed printer software. Restart computer just in case that would make a difference. Nope, no luck. Instructions were no help at all, it just appears to not like my scanner, nor want to be helpful in helping me find a solution. Plenty of PC based answers, just very short of Mac solutions. I don't particularly care about this, so don't want anyone to fuss about helping me work it out, it's moreso another example of how useful Preview is out of the box. Of course, if there is a simple solution, I'd be happy to know. BTW, I was also able to scan using the Print driver in System Preferences - all very simple and straight forward, unlike Acrobat Pro!!
