Hi Corrina, What Windows version (XP, Vista, Windows7) are exporting from & what version of OS X on the Mac (Leopard or Snow Leopard)? What version of iPhoto are you importing your photos into? Did you format the External Drive FAT32 using Windows?
Choosing 'MS-DOS File System' (also known as FAT32) will make your drive completely compatible with both a Mac and Windows computer, but you cannot make a file any larger than 4GB. This is the same as formatting as FAT32 under Windows, however unlike Windows there isn't an artificial restriction which limits creating disks in FAT32 format which are bigger than 32GB. Microsoft Windows XP limits a FAT32 volume to 32GB it quits formatting when it hits the 32GB mark. If a maximum file size limit of 4Gb doesn't bother you, then use FAT32. Use the Mac to format the FAT32 volume, not the PC. I have done a PDF Tutorial (with screenshots) for Transferring from WindowsXP & Vista to a Mac. This is a tutorial for transferring your files, music, and photos from Windows to Mac using an external hard drive. Transferring your Files in Windows to your External Hard Drive and then transferring your files from the External Hard Drive and placing everything in the correct places on the Mac. It explains how to ‘consolidate’ your Windows iTunes Library for moving your music across into iTunes Library on the Mac. If the Tutorial would be helpful to you, email me 'Off List" & I'll email the PDF to you. I'm logging off very soon as I have a very early start with a client tomorrow.
