G'day all. I've had a look at both sites and it appears to me that there is a fundamental difference between the two types of wall sockets.
Sam's socket, according to the website <http://store.fastmac.com/product_info.php?products_id=458> is just a power socket. In other words, you can plug the usb device in to charge up only. The socket simply replaces a current power socket. I see that it is due out in December this year, pending final safety approval. At least in America anyway. Ronni's socket looks like a dedicated socket like a TV socket. You plug your device in one end and the display, or whatever, is at the other end. So Sam - it does appear to be new and cool! I wonder how long they'll take to get out here to Australia?
