I have experienced similar problems with multiple HDs on one machine. I finally
worked out that the problem was caused by the misbehaving drives not getting
the right voltage or current, or both, because the several drives were
overloading the power supply. Disconnected the last drive's power supply and
the problems disappeared. The 3 HDs were in a PowerMac G5, and were all high
capacity drives. You may somehow be getting the same problem.
