Last year you could buy an unlocked phone in Canada and with the favourable exchange rate that may be of interest to you. It would be advisabe to check out the options re buying from an Apple store then getting a prepaid sim from one of the telcos there if you are planning to use it. The traps with this are that some of the plans are very local and may not be value for money if travelling across country or crossing the border. A travel sim card purchased prior to leaving may provide an alternative.
