Thanks, Ronni, that does not seem to be quite the logical way for
things to happen.

Can someone give me a pointer on this one ( not for me).
Time Machine comes up with "Time Machine Error This backup is too
large for the backup volume. The backup requires 3.3GB but only
1.2GB are available. To select a larger volume or make the backup
smaller by excluding file open System Preferences ........"
Warn when old backups are deleted is checked but does not come up.
Hi Severin,
Is this on a Leopard computer?
This backup is too large (Leopard)
If you have the Warn when old backups are deleted option checked in
Time Machine Preferences > Options, your backup will fail with this
message.
Time Machine will not delete old backups while this option is
checked. This doesn't necessarily indicate a problem; un-check the
Warn . . . option in Time Machine Preferences, and try another backup.
Time Machine will delete one or more of your oldest backups to make
room for the new one.
Cheers,
Ronni
