Hi Ronni, Same thing unfortunately with either method of retyping. I used, also, to just highlight and retype, but now because the highlighting will persist about three times out of four, I generally delete, clear the highlighting if necessary and then retype.
A pattern I only just noticed and one that suggests that the problem is a bug, is that it only occurs when I highlight text using the new three-finger-swipe gesture on a multi-touch pad. Any other method of highlighting, keyboard or clicking the track pad, works without problems. When the three-finger-swipe gesture became available I swapped to it from the tap-and-a-half and drag as I find it more convenient and reliable. It does seem, however, to have this one small anomaly. The fact that TextEdit does not share the problem suggest that Apple engineers have the correct code floating around the office somewhere but have not reused it in Mail.app. I think I will send a bug report off to Apple. Unless they have already acted on their own testing or another bug report I am probably too late for 10.6.7 as that is already in beta. I may have to work around the problem until Lion. Thanks for your continued interest and ideas, Ronni!
