Hi Rosie Did you try Apple's Image Capture. (in Applications folder) I've sometimes found that wireless scanners which won't show up under the manufacturers own software, work under Image Capture perfectly. (And sometimes even better).
I also found with some clients the Canon scanner software had to be installed in specific order for certain things to work. The Epson's were a little like that too, but not so much (in that you had to make Sure Epson Scan Utility saw your scanner wirelessly and not via the cable). They can be a bit fiddly, but once set up work very well. Hope something there helps.
