Trying to be energy miserly I bought a Jackson Green Energy Saving
Powerboard (http://www.ji.com.au/products/PT9778/).
It works fine with my G5 plugged in to the Master socket and
everything else, display, printers, router, modem, Airport, scanner,
Firewire drives and so on in Slave sockets. When I shut down at night
the G5 goes through Shutdown then everything switches off. In the
morning at 8.40am when the G5 restarts everything comes back on.
There is an unfortunate snag. During the day when I am away from the
desk I put the G5 to sleep. When I try this it goes to sleep then
almost instantly reawakes. I believe that the sleep current drawn is
so small that the board obediently powers down the slaves and in their
dying gasps the modem and the like send out signals and the G5
responds by waking up.
Has anyone else used one of these gadgets or have any bright ideas for
a workaround?
