Stuart,
I asked about digital radio in a post to this forum over a year ago,
but received very few replies, and those few contained no good news.
Just about every digital radio currently available is a tinny little
boom-box; many of them monaural to boot. As far as I can determine
there are only two component receivers available that match closely
with existing amplifiers, but they are ridiculously expensive.
I have emailed Elgato, the makers of the excellent EyeTV tuners, to
ask if they will be making a DAB+ tuner for Mac, or supplying
software that will allow DAB+ decoding using the existing tuners,
but have heard nothing in reply.
As a temporary solution, having waited in vain this long for a
reasonable-priced digital radio tuner I am tempted to buy a cheapish
boom-box that has stereo audio-out and connecting it to my
amplifier. That way I will at least be able to listen to those many
DAB+-only stations that are not available on the AM or FM bands. As
expected, none of the purveyors of DAB+ radios that I have visited
would guarantee that the audio-out of their boom-boxes were stereo.
All of them just stated that they assumed that the outputs would be
stereo.
