OK, if the mouse is on a plan wood grain type service that has "indents" in it, 
then the mouse can "bounce" the signal of the optic so it does appear to 
"bounce around the screen". (or to the top corner).
even when you're not using it, but it's still sitting there, it will do that.
Try using the mouse on a plain coloured mouse mat  (not pictured, as that does 
the same thing), so that the signal gets "absorbed" by the mat and works 
slightly better with the mouse. See how that goes and if no joy then also try 
in another account as well.
