There was no formal request to log out, just a note that it would require a restart. It went ahead and closed everything down at the beginning. I did not do a Repair Permissions prior to the update but will do so now. Thanks for the reassurance - after my earlier goings on with Photoshop and subsequent rebuild I am wary of things like this!
