Hi Blitto, Because a physical shock seems to have corrected the problem it is likely a hardware problem (unless the bang on the desk was not the real reason it mounted). I would be keen to return the drive for exchange if I were you. The only problem is that the intermittent hardware problem may not manifest itself when you would like it to - that is in the store.
