Hi Alan, Yes, you can send files with Bluetooth to other Macs on your local Network. But AirDrop is faster as it uses WiFi and doesn't require passwords, setup, or special settings. Sharing is simple 'Drag & Drop'.
AirDrop: Click the AirDrop icon in the sidebar of a Finder window on both computers. The user pictures and computer names of those near you appear in the AirDrop window. Drag the item you want to share to another person's picture. Or use the Share button in a Finder Window. Once that person accepts the file, it's transferred directly to their downloads folder. Sending Files via Bluetooth: System Preferences > Sharing - turn Bluetooth ON When receiving items: Accept & Save (to save all items to your computer) or select another option Folder for accepted items: Downloads (or other location) When other devices browse: "Always Allow" (let's devices browse your computer) or "Ask what to do" Folder others can browse: Public --- Applications > Utilities - Bluetooth File Exchange File > Send File Share your files using Bluetooth <http://support.apple.com/kb/PH10786> Cheers, Ronni Sent from Ronni's iPad4 On 22/05/2013, at 12:28 PM, Alan Smith <[email protected]> wrote: > Can files be copied between Macs using Bluetooth, or is Bluetooth just for > sending items from a portable device (e.g. smart phone) to a Mac? > > Regards, Alan > > Alan Smith > Late 2012 iMac 27" Intel Quad Core i5 3.2Ghz 8GB RAM - OSX 10.8.3 > Late 2009 iMac 21.5" Intel Core 2 Duo 3.06GHz 12G RAM - OSX 10.8.3 > iPad2; ATV2; iPhone5
