Hi Severin, Did you purchase both the earlier version & the newer version of this App through the iTunes App Store? An App downloaded using your iTunes Account has your Apple ID information stored in the .ipa file (as a plist)
If you didn't purchase the 'previous version' through the iTunes App Store this may not work (iTunes might reject it). All your iOS Apps are stored locally on your computer in your Home directory in this location: ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Mobile Applications/ So I would first backup (copy) both versions of the App (.ipa) to another location for safe keeping. 1. Navigate to the iOS app location, at ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Mobile Applications/ and find the app 2. Copy the app file/s to another location to serve as the backup Downgrading to Previous Version of an iOS App 1. On the iOS device (your iPad), delete the app you wish to downgrade 2. On the computer, quit iTunes 3. Again navigate to the local iOS app location at ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Mobile Applications/ 4. Remove the newest version of the app .ipa file from that directory 5. Copy the previously saved version of the app to the /Mobile Applications/ directory 6. Relaunch iTunes 7. Resync the iPhone, iPad, or iPod, and the older app version will restore to the device to complete the downgrade. In some situations the older versions of apps won’t be compatible with the newest version of iOS, you’ll know this is the case because the app won’t launch when you attempt to open it on the iPhone/iPad, or you will get a message stating a new version is available and asking to upgrade. If this doesn't work you can replace the new version back in the Mobile Applications location and sync again. Note: I take all care but no responsibility if this does not work. Let us know how you get on please.
