Hi Ronni Thank you - draft emails now recovered. My fault - I had selected the T.M. mailbox but not the individual messages.
The second mysterious problem with old mailbox names on display has also cleared up - mysteriously. I returned to T.M. and scrolled back through my normal inbox to determine the actual date I made the name changes. The mailbox names within T.M. then gradually updated with the correct names, and when I exited T.M., the working Mail boxes had restored properly. I notice that Time Machine (using Time Capsule WiFi) is rather slow in populating the historical dates available, so perhaps it was still populating data after I selected and restored particular items. I won't test this out now - I'll just remember to pat TC, speak kindly of T.M. and make a cup of coffee before I try restoring a file next time.
