Hi Severin -- -- I had a similar problem a couple of months ago, and somebody else brought it up on WAMUG recently. It's actually nothing to do with Safari, instead it is an adware creature which happens to have attacked Safari first. Left unattended, it will spread to your other browsers.
-- After doing some investigation, I solved the problem for myself by installing TSM Adware Removal Tool (free). There are other possible solutions, but I am happy with the one used.
