I use MacUpdater to keep my MacBook Pro up to date.

I’ve used it for years but in in a moment of brain fade in November or was that
December I ticked the box for moving to trash items associated with the
applications that were being updated. This means for example that Skype
password and history etc has been lost, bookmarks have gone from Firefox,
SuperDuper! associated files have gone.

Fortunately I did not empty Trash.

Can restoration be as simple as dragging things out of Trash and dropping them
onto the MacIntosh HD icon? I have postponed attempts to restore from Time
Machine and SuperDuper! backups, because although I have read and reread
“MacBook Pro Personal Genius” 5th edition I am not confident that I will not
make the situation worse.

Since the Day of the Brain Fade I have, however, backed up the hard-drive to
another external drive, one that does not have anything else on it.

Kind regards,

Michael Hawkins
