Ronni,
you and others may remember that some time back I had a problem with a
Bose sound system that would only play from the AV sound from the TV but not
from the preferred optical link. I lived with this more or less satisfactory
situation for some time then did some more digging and got the solution.
Like many users, I am sure, I record everything of interest on a Panasonic
recorder and play back at a time of our choice; in fact we never watch the TV
“live” direct from the antenna. Well documented, I subsequently found that
recorders transmit correctly to the TV via the HDMI cable but mildly corrupt
the audio so that the Bose can not recognise it. The solution is a small magic
box which intercepts the audio from the HDMI cable and passes it in its correct
format to the Bose. I now have such a system installed (inexpensive by the
way) and all is now as it should be.
I realise now, after the event, that I did not mention the recorder in my
earlier correspondence, assuming that HDMI was HDMI - I live and learn!
This may help or at least be of interest to others.
