We have a similar problem; we are both suffering from a degree of hearing loss, they tell us it is something to do with advancing years! Accordingly purchase a Bose Solo system, not cheap, but it made a remarkable difference. We now both get the dialog from mumbling Americans on TV shows and films and even Geordies are more or less intelligible! It was a real boon for us, though our sons when they visit complain of the the high sound level! Though this is not a direct solution to your stated split system need it worked for us! Best wishes Severin
