Hello John,

I’m upset and sorry that you felt my comment was a negative response.
In your original email to the WAMUG mailing list you mentioned you were going
to use Migration Assistant and you knew all about how to use it to make the
transfer from your old Mac to your new Mac from Apple support, and you were
only waiting for your Thunderbolt to FireWire adapter to arrive
So I did not reply with instructions how to do the migration transition of all
your data and settings from old to new as I have done before on WAMUG.

But when I saw your email with your results - and I Quote from your reply:
/“The result of this is now having a very overloaded HD. What should have
been a 158 GB upgrade, plus the extra used by the latest OS, has now turned out
to end up with a 705 GB HD”/

Which indicated to me you did not do the Migration correctly as per the Apple
Support instructions of connecting the two computers with the FireWire to
Thunderbolt ports and starting the old Mac in Target Disk Mode.
So I sent the Apple Support link that gives clear instructions and pictures to
show how to transfer from old to new computer using target disk mode.

“connect them using target disk mode and the appropriate cable or adapter.
Then start up your old computer in target disk mode.” etc...

I have done a huge amount of ‘transfers and setups’ for clients over many years
and never had any problems.
I was only trying to help as I always do on WAMUG.

It doesn’t surprise me that you are now finding the new Mac is taking longer to
boot up, and I would not expect it is in anyway hardware related.

That is all I’m having to say on this subject.

Cheers,
Ronni
