Hi Ronni, Yes, I am signed into icloud on the ipads and can see all the notes in my icloud on the ipads. The problem is that we can only create new notes “on my ipad” and cannot move these notes to icloud. No, I have not upgraded our notes on the ipad. My understanding was that if we DO do that then it is the actual notes in our icloud accounts that get upgraded to the newer notes format and that if we do that then our iPhones (old iPhone4s running ios 7.1.2) will no longer be able to read these notes. Given that Georgie uses notes on her phone much more than on her iPad she would be very upset if she could no longer read the notes. My understanding was that if you did NOT upgrade then you would continue to use the old note format and so would miss out on any of the new features introduced with the notes – that is certainly how it works on my iMac which is running El Capitan and so is able to be upgraded to the new notes format (like the ipads) but I can still create notes in icloud which can be read on both the phones and the ipads and I can move notes from “on my computer” to icloud – so I sort of assumed that the same thing would work on the ipads?
So is our problem an Apple “feature” in that the OSX Notes app WILL let us create notes in icloud without upgrading to the new notes format but the IOS notes app will NOT allow this? Using the same Apple ID doesn't mean your iPad automatically connects to your iCloud. This is very possible especially if you set up your iPad using iTunes not iCloud backup. Check to be sure you are signed into your iCloud account. Another quick thought: You did upgrade your Notes when you installed iOS9 or later? Upgrading Your Notes • Update to iOS 9 or later. ... • Open the Notes app on your iPad. ... • Tap the "<" button to view the folder list if you aren't prompted to upgrade. ... • Tap "Upgrade" in the upper corner. ... • Tap "Upgrade Now" when prompted. ... • Wait while your Notes app upgrades <https://www.wikihow.com/Upgrade-iPhone-Notes> Sorry if none of above is of any help at all for you ;-( Kind regards, Ronni On 1 May 2019, at 8:43 pm, Neil Houghton <[email protected]> wrote: OK so I’m getting very confused with how notes synching works/does not work in icloud: On my iMac, OSX 10.11.6, Notes version 4.2 everything works fine – I can see notes sections for icloud, bigpond, internode, outlook and “on my computer” I create notes in the iCloud section and they go to my iCloud notes and can be seen on all devices. Old notes that were shown as “on my computer” could just be dragged and dropped to the icloud section and were then accessible across devices. Even on my (very) old iPhone 4 running ios 7.1.2 everything works fine – I have the default account set as icloud and new notes are created in icloud and are then accessible across devices. However on my iPad running the most up-to-date compatible ios 10.3.3 I can see all my icloud notes and I have icloud set as my default notes account BUT every new note created is created “on my ipad”. I can not find any way to change it so that new notes are created in icloud – even though that is the default account. I also cannot move the notes from “on my ipad” to “icloud” – I can go “edit” then select a note (or notes) and hit “move to” but the only place which is available to move to (or create new folders in) is “on my ipad” – ICLOUD just is not visible in the move to window. I should note that Georgina sees similar behaviour on her devices – an iPhone 4 which works fine and an older mini iPad running its most up-to-date compatible ios 9.3.5 – in her case she can also see both icloud and on my ipad notes but can only create notes on the ipad. Her settings are different the only bit that allows a default account to be selected is “default account for siri” which shows both icloud and on my ipad but selecting icloud makes no difference. Her settings also has a toggle switch for the “on my ipad” account which is on – but the setting is greyed out and does not seem to let you change it. Again selecting one of the on my ipad notes and trying the “move to” command only shows destinations “on my ipad” It seems very strange that this works fine on the mac and the very old iphones but not on the ipads? Any ideas. Cheers Neil -- Neil R.
