Sometimes you have to use invoke:
ie.#{element}(:id,"foo").document.currentstyle.invoke(attributeAsCamelCase)
the visible method works this way:
ie.#{element}(:id,"foo").document.currentstyle.invoke("display")
ie.#{element}(:id,"foo").document.currentstyle.invoke("isDisabled")
