Hello, As you may recall, today is the 4th anniversary of the first public demonstration of Google Wave. If you're like me, I am sure that you recall how exciting that was.
I hope that you are also excited about the future of Wave. I think that Wave is an ideal medium for the evolving nature of the Web. As such, the Apache Software Foundation is a great community in which to consider Wave's future, as it as sponsored its open source development since 2009. What can - and should - Wave become? That's for the world to decide. But to help start that process rolling, I have been discussing options with a group of Wave enthusiasts to assemble a possible roadmap for where Wave could go to be relevant in today's rapidly evolving Web environment. A slide deck outlining this "strawman" model of where Wave could head may be found at the following address: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1pNsrX26947QH89Ot3k62nlKKSRFLmVgBWxcIEne8VYI/edit?usp=sharing The document is open for comments to all having the link and the link is shareable. It doesn't necessarily represent a consensus view of what everyone's thinking may be about where Wave could or should evolve, but I do think that it captures many provocative and powerful possible directions. I welcome your input as individuals and as a community and would be glad to respond to your thoughts and questions as required. Online Web conferencing to discuss these concepts informally would also be welcome. Thank you for your kind attention. I look forward to what you may have as thoughts regarding the future of Wave in response to this presentation.
