Yes. Because Openfire and other XMPP servers present their components a
sub domains of the root domain, you need to have a wave.[domain] entry
in your  DNS info.

Below is what I've setup for wave.collaborynth.com.au

wave                    IN      A       220.233.26.91
wave.wave               IN      A       220.233.26.91
_xmpp-server._tcp.collaborynth.com.au. 3600 IN SRV 10 0 5269
wave.collaborynth.com.au.

Note, if you're just using your root domain you don't need the wave.wave
entry.
