There's an open source implementation of RTMP. I remember one concern over XMPP was with regard to real-time communications, and I also saw some questions in the wave regarding how chunking would be negotiated. Again from my cursory review of the protocol it appears to address both of these concerns. Also, are there any people looking to create a .NET (WPF/SL) Wave client? I'd be interested in joining such an effort.
